Geographically, the Highland Park Independent School District is a six square mile residential community completely surrounded by the City of Dallas. HPISD was outside the city limits of Dallas when it was founded in 1914, but it is now surrounded by Dallas – a district within a district.
HPISD serves approximately 28,447 persons in the city of University Park, the town of Highland Park and a small portion of Dallas.
Highland Park schools receive strong support from all segments of a unique community. Approximately 30% of the families have a child in school, 25% of the homes are occupied by renters, and 20% of the residents claim senior citizen excemptions.
